Educational - Fibre optic cabling Installation relocation and termination Banstead Surrey

Case Study

The ICT manager of a secondary school had a number of fibre optic cables installed that required engineers with fibre optic installation and repair expertise.

Fibre optic cable relocation

Firstly a building that was being refurbished had an overhead catenary wired backbone cable attached to it, the building was to have a new facia fitted and the existing fibre optic cable was attached in such a way that the works could not be completed with it still attached.

The existing cable needed to be cut and removed from the affected area to allow the works to be completed then fusion spliced back together and tested. We completed this relocation work over two visits.

New Laser optimised OM3 Multimode cable installation.

Secondly some of the legacy OM1 (62.5) Multimode fibre optic cables had been installed for many years and the sheath had cracked due to the sunlight, and the fibre inner cables had begun to poke through the sheath.

It was time to replace these before they finally gave up. We suggested the installation of an OM3 grade laser optimised fibre optic cable that supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet up to 300m. Giving a future proofed high speed connection.

Upgrade of Patch panels to High density type

We replaced the existing ST type patch panels in the Telecoms Cabinets with a LC type high density patch panel, which allowed us to consolidate 3U of cabinet space into just one freeing up valuable space. The new cables were direct polished on site and tested to ensure the works exceeded design loss limits.

Protected fibre cables

The new fibre optic cables our engineers installed, were enclosed in protective conduits along roofs, walls and securely fastened to help prevent unwanted mechanical damage, installing the cables in this way helps to extend the investment made the new cables.
