We have been working in Richmond, Surrey, refurbishing and reusing a Category 6 cabling system as part of an office project.
This approach saved over £6K against purchasing a new system.
The previous tennant had cut the Cat 6 cabling at the patch panel when they vacated the building, leaving us with a project to try and make use of the 200 cables that were in a big pile on the floor.
First job was to relocate the the Floorboxes to the correct position - some cables were not long enough to relocate.
We then went round all the floorboxes with our cable identification tool and began the process of numbering everything up both ends.
So we now had all the floorboxes in the correct place, everything identified next job was to pull in the missing cables or ones that were too short.
Termination of the Patch panels came next, followed by a full fluke certification test of the entire cabling installation. We identified around 20 existing circuits that fell short of the Cat 6 standard around 15 of these also failed against Cat 5e or Gigabit ethernet.
The main fault identifed were faulty damaged cables near to the floor box end - a day later an all faults have been fixed and the customer has managed to reuse the existing the existing cabling system and saved around £6K against having a complete new system installed.
We opted to use Hellerman Tyton Network Sciences Cat 6 patch panels and angled terminations in the floorboxes.
We are a Manufacturer approved installer for these products and know they perform well and are a quality long lasting product.
