Fibre Optic Cabling Installation, Termination & Testing
In Summer 2016, the Piccadilly Underpass in Westminster was refurbished. We completed the installation, termination & testing of multimode fibre optic cables on behalf of the main contractor, FM Conway.
The optical cables are used for network connectivity which support the big advertising screens.
Our scope of work was also to supply & install weatherproof enclosures on each gantry, as well as a secure roadside cabinet. Each of these locations house fibre optic terminations, communication and audio visual equipment.
The installation of the cables was at a high level along the full length of the underpass - around 350m.This required our engineers to drive a mobile platform in order to reach the cable pathway. At each end of the tunnel, we installed new metal galvanised cable containment trunking which connects to the secure weatherproof network enclosures on the gantrys.
As part of our scope we also ordered the BT Openreach Broadband circuits on behalf of Westminster Council and had these provided for WAN connectivity.
